Nokia Corporation, Nokia, for short, is a Finnish multinational telecommunications, information technology, and consumer electronics company, founded in 1865.  Its headquarters are in Espoo, in the greater Helsinki metropolitan area of Finland.

The over 150-years-old company was founded as a pulp mill, making toilet rolls. It later branched into large-scale telecommunications infrastructures, technology development, and licensing, making it one of the highly diversified companies in the world, especially in the telecommunications space.

Nokia is a notable major contributor to the mobile telephony industry, having assisted in the development of the GSM, 3G and LTE standards (and currently in 5G), and is best known for having been the largest worldwide vendor of mobile phones and smartphones for a period.

By 2011, Nokia was on top of its game. Nigerians would not forget Nokia in a hurry because it was the maker of some of the most popular phones in Nigeria. Yours sincerely’s first phone in 2001 was Nokia 3310.

Jorma Ollila, the man who oversaw the rise of Nokia in the mobile phone market as CEO from 1992 to 2006.

Just about that time, in 2011, Nokia was valued at about $100b (one hundred billion United States of America dollars). But later, the valuation sunk below $10b (ten billion American dollars). And now, in 2019, the valuation has reached $30b (Thirty billion US dollars). “Hope-rising,” you would say!

In 2011, Nokia made a partnership agreement with Microsoft to make Lumia phones, running the Microsoft Windows Mobile application operating systems.

Even though the cameras of those Lumia phones were really good on the phones and their designs superb, they couldn’t just compete with other phones like Samsung, HTC, LG, and of course, with Apple’s iphone.

What went wrong, I cannot say!

And consequent upon that catastrophe, Nokia had to sell its mobile devices division to Microsoft.  And by 2016, Microsoft in turn sold it to another company known as HMD Global. And today we have new superlative Nokia phones, including Nokia 9 PurView.

I sincerely believe that Nokia is steadily staging a come-back and I feel it is going to be big   again in the nearest future. This is because HMD Global and its associates are taking the right steps in the right direction towards making sure that Nokia brand regains it respect forr good quality, reliability and durability.

I will like to see the resurgence of Nokia phones in Nigerian markets, as soon as possible. Wouldn’t you, too? I have the confidence that Nokia phones would rise again, like the biblical dry bones.

It is on this note that I invite you to join me in praying for Nokia’s resurrection.

In Jesus name we have prayed.

Amen!
