Senator Ovie Omo-Agege’s Accusation Of Non-Performance Against Governor Ifeanyi Okowa: Very Unfair!

While speaking on an occasion in the Ughelli South area of Delta State over the weekend, the Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, accused the governor of Delta State, Senator (Dr.) Ifeanyi Okowa, of non-performance.

I didn’t want to comment on the matter until now, for fear of being tagged Okowa’s apologist, but after a second thought, I decided to do so.

If not for anything else, at least as a concerned stakeholder and lover of Delta State, as well as one who is in the position of reporting news about Nigeria to Nigerians.

I may not have benefitted directly from the government of Governor Okowa in terms of appointment or contract award, but that is not enough for me to conclude that Governor Okowa is not performing.

As a Deltan living in Delta State since 2013, I can confidently tell you or anybody who cares to listen to me that the state I met Delta State in 2013 is not the state which Delta State is now.

A lot of developments have taken place and are still taking place, especially in the areas of infrastructural developments, education, youth empowerment, and security.

Any Deltan living in Delta State or who visits Delta State regularly and still says Governor Ifeanyi Okowa is not performing must be very stingy with the truth for the best reasons known to him or her.

Again, I had the opportunity of travelling throughout the length and breadth of Delta State during the electioneering campaigns of both the All Progressive Congress, APC, and the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, before the 2019 Delta State gubernatorial election.

Throughout that period, I witnessed construction work, for example, going on in all the three Senatorial Districts of the State.

And when I returned to those areas in late 2020, most of those construction works had been completed.

What I expected the opposition parties in Delta State, especially the APC, to do, instead of criticizing Governor Okowa and his government unfairly, is to start making plans on how to defeat PDP in Delta State, if they can, with a view to constructing more roads, building more schools, and empowering more Deltans, among others, better than Governor Okowa is doing right now.

If that happens, all of us, both Deltans and non-Deltans living in Delta State, would be happy and better for it because it is the prayer of every lover of Delta State to see and watch a new government in the State doing better than the previous or former one.

To be sincere, if future governments in Delta State would perform as much as Governor Okowa has already done and is still doing, and even better, Delta State would be on its way to setting more paces as it doing at the present moment.

Inasmuch as I respect the Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege for who he is and what he is, and without speaking for Governor Okowa and/or his government, I must not fail to say that it is unfair on the part Of Senator Omo-Agege to accuse Governor Okowa of non-performance.

If Senator Omo-Agege wants to win the sympathy of Deltans and become our next governor, he must tell us the truth about what is happening in Delta State and what he plans to do for us when he becomes the governor of Delta State, as well as how he plans to double or quadruple the present performance of the present Delta State Government, instead of attacking Governor Okowa.

He cannot do that by telling us things that are contrary to what we see and know about Delta State. That would amount to spreading or preaching falsehood.

After that, he and his team should begin to articulate how to unseat PDP in Delta State, if they can, in the most legal and Godly way.

While urging Governor not to be distracted in providing Deltans with more dividends of democracy, I want to use this opportunity to urge and appeal to all Deltans; young and old, man and woman, rich and poor, educated and non-educated to stay committed to building a better and stronger Delta State than saying or doing things that would undermine its growth, development, and peace.

Anything short of this will amount to spreading falsehood and chasing shadows, on the part of the person concerned.

I rest my case!
