Refuse Dump | Aniocha North Local Government Council Area Wearing A New Look

Aniocha North Local Government Council is one of the 25 local government areas of Delta State that has benefited from the government of His Excellency, Senator Dr. Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa, especially in his road-construction efforts, which earned him the ‘Road Master’ accolade.

Unfortunately, some of the drainage are badly affected due to the nonchalant attitude of the people of the Council, who viciously dump their refuse and wastes in those water passages, which is common among people of other local governments in Nigeria.

As a responsive government that cares for its people, the Aniocha North Local Government Council under the leadership of its able Chairman, Hon. Chuks Oseme, has started sensitizing the people of the Council on the importance of keeping the drainage free of refuse and wastes.

The Council has commenced the clearing of drainage in some of the towns and villages within its domain, including Issele-Uku/Ubulu-Uku Road, Issele-Uku/Issele-Mkpitime Road, and Issele-Uku/Onicha-Uku/Ugbodu/Ukwu-Nzu Road.

The Council has also commenced work on the evacuation of heaps of refuse left on the roads and at the market places, starting from the popular Afor Market in Issele-Uku, where the Council’s headquarters is domiciled.

This informed the Council’s decision to acquire some giant waste disposal bins, as can be seen in the photograph above. The bins, which would be positioned at strategic locations, including market premises, would make it possible for people to dispose of their refuse properly for easy evacuation.

All these will go a long way to:

  1. Easing the flow of rain water in the area, whenever it rains;

  2. Preserving the life-span of our roads;

  3. Making life easy and safe for motorists, who use the roads; and

  4. Ultimately, ensuring good health for the people of the Council.

The people of Aniocha North Local Government Area, are therefore implored, to work in synergy with the Council in this direction. They should encourage the Council to deliver more dividends of democracy by imbibing the habit of disposing their wastes properly, and not dumping them in the drainage channels.
