The Devastating Effects of The Notorious Iyi Nta Flooding

Aniocha North Local Government Council of Delta State is set to proffer palliative measures to the over-flooding menace at the popular Iyi Nta located along Issele-Uku/Idumuje–Unor Road.

This information was disclosed by the Chairman of the Council, Hon. Chucks Oseme, during his visit to Iyi Nta, in the company of Mr. Offordile Uge, the President-General of Issele-Uku Development Union, I.D.U.

The perennial flooding experienced in different parts of Issele-Uku, which empties itself at the said Iyi Nta via Ishiekpe and Ogboli Quarters, causes the entire place to be sub-merged whenever it rains.

This constantly makes life difficult for people living within that environment.

It has also led to the washing away of some parts of the major roads in the town, including the Issele-Uku/Idumuje Unor Road, which was recently constructed by Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC.

This caused some indigenes of the town to carry out a peaceful demonstration, with a view to attracting the attention of the government to their predicament, as well as to prevent wanton destruction of lives and property.

The situation requires the urgent attention of the Delta State and the Federal governments, as it is beyond the financial power of the immediate community and the local government council.

However, Aniocha North Local Government Council, led by Hon. Chucks Oseme in its proactive nature, has decided not to wait for the State or Federal Government before something meaningful is done to the flooding catastrophe.

According to President-General of the town, Mr. Offordile Ugeh, the Chairman of the Council, Hon. Oseme, has commissioned a contractor to carry out the feasibility studies of the area and to come up with the Bill of Quantities (BOQ) for immediate palliative measure to be taken by the Council.

It is hoped that all these processes would be completed in a few weeks from now.
